Who We Are
Downtown Sedan has been home to the Sedan Times-Star since 1894 and we hope it remains here for another century or two.
While the newspaper has only been owned by the Taylors since 2001, it has been a friend of the family for several decades. Because of its close proximity to Caney where Rudy and Kathy reside, this community has always seemed a little like home to them. Their favorite dining places are in Sedan and it was those “eating trips” that generated their interest in buying the newspaper in the first place.
It was actually Bill Kurtis who partnered with the Taylors to purchase the newspaper, then he was bought out three years later by Rudy and Kathy. Kurtis and the Taylors remain close friends today.
Jenny Diveley is the manager of the Sedan Times-Star as well as the Flint Hills Express and she manages the newspaper from her home office at Independence. From there she supervises two employees in our Sedan office, Veda Siebuhr and Margie McKenna.
.
.
Veda and her husband, Doug, have lived in Sedan the past five years and he is branch manager of the Bank of Sedan and Bank of Cedar Vale. Veda manages the office and provides a happy greeting to anyone who comes through our front door. Veda and Doug are empty nesters after happily raising two daughters and a son. They are active members of the Tyro Christian Church.

Margie is new to the Sedan Times-Star but is quickly catching on. She previously served as church secretary at the First Christian Church in Sedan and she loves to play the piano. She also plays the mandolin and violin. Her husband, Bill, is a law enforcement officer with the Sedan Police Department.
Jenny works from home because she believes in being a stay-at-home mother, and little Trenton, age 2, appreciates that plan. Jenny is married to Landon Diveley who teaches math and coaches basketball at Independence High School.
Landon and Jenny are active members of the Tyro Christian Church where they both play in the praise band — he as a drummer and she as a pianist.
Thanks to modern technology, Jenny can zip stories, photos and ads from hither to yon as quickly as the Worldwide Web can travel, and the last time we checked that was 186,000 miles per second! Of course, she also talks on the telephone throughout the day, sends and receives up to 100 emails a day and slides in a few faxes to even out the score.
Jenny is also our technology expert and she stays in frequent communication with our web consultant who lives in Lawrence.
By the way, Jenny Diveley is Rudy and Kathy Taylor’s daughter and a sister to Andy Taylor.
Andy Taylor takes time away from his responsibilities as editor of the Montgomery County Chronicle to help Jenny write sports and take school oriented pictures, and publisher Rudy Taylor heads to Sedan every chance he gets.
Kathy Taylor writes “Life’s Little Lifesavers” for the Sedan Times-Star but she spends most of her time managing our Caney office.
