Elgin man faces child molestation, kidnapping charge

An Elgin, Kan., man is being held in the Chautauqua County Jail on $100,000 bond following his arrest earlier in the week on child molestation and kinapping charges.

Mark L. Morton, 52, of Elgin, is charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a minor and one count kidnapping.

Kristin Hutchison, acting county attorney in Chautauqua County, said the alleged incidents took place sometime between July 1 and Aug. 2.

Morton will make an appearance in the 14th Judicial District courtroom in Sedan at 9 a.m., Friday, Aug. 15, at which time the charges will be formally presented to him.
