Boil water advisory issues for Chautauqua
Those who get their water service from the City of Chautauqua Water Department have been issued a boil water advisory. This was due to dry lines caused when work crews were installing a new pump this week.
Those water customers will need to adhere to the following guidelines for one week.
Customers should observe the following precautions when the water supply is returned to use:
• Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation, or use bottled water.
• Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker. You may use ice that has been frozen with the boiled water. Or use purchased ice from store.
• Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
• If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
The advisory will remain in effect for one week unless otherwise advised. If there are any questions regarding this advisory contact Jeanie Beason, R. N., Chautauqua County Health Department or Nathan Rees, Chautauqua County Emergency Manager.
