The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for the City of Sedan in Chautauqua County.

KDHE officials are issuing the advisory due to a number of water main breaks which were caused by water pressure changes after bringing a new water storage tank online.  These main breaks have resulted in a loss of pressure and loss of water service in the distribution system. The water mains are in the process of being repaired and whenever such a loss of pressure occurs, it is possible for contaminants to enter the system. Also during this time, disinfection (chlorine) residuals may drop to levels that are inadequate to protect against bacterial contamination.
