HOWARD — Rumors are flying this week after an 18-wheeler truck overturned south of Howard along K-99 highway last Thursday, resulting in closure of the highway for three days.

Law enforcement officials at all levels are maintaining a no-comment status and even the Kansas Department of Transportation said they were not provided with specifics — only an order to close the highway.

rodeoThe Elk County Rodeo at Moline will be held this year on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.  The Elk County Rodeo will be under the direction of Shawn Mills, rodeo president.

Barnes & Sons Rodeo Company of Tahlequah, Okla., will again provide the stock and handlers for this years’ rodeo which will be sanctioned by both the ACRA and IPRA.  The Mutton Bustin’ sheep will again be furnished by Marvin and Kathy Zimmers of Moline. Read more

Participants will be able to receive a chemical blood profile which measures blood glucose, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, cholesterol, protein, potassium, and BUN, for $27.  This test requires a 12 hour fast. Read more
