Moline Crazy Days set for this weekend

bn279031Everything is all set for the annual Moline Crazy Days festival, which will begin Friday evening, June 25 at 6 p.m. with the annual free been feed at the city park.  The baked goods and crafts auction will immediately follow the bean feed.  Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy an evening of fun with your friends and neighbors.

The Moline Chamber is sponsoring a new event this year, with the addition of the “Little Miss Moline” contest.  Crowning of the Little Misses will be Friday evening after the bean feed.  Also adding to Friday evening’s activities this year is a free children’s movie put on by the Moline Library.  Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to the tennis court in the city park to enjoy the movie, scheduled to show about dusk.

Saturday, June 26 kicks off with the parade in downtown Moline at 10:30 a.m.  The theme for this year’s parade is “A Red, White & Blue Round-Up”, celebrating the Elk County Rodeo’s 75th Anniversary along with celebrating America’s independence.  Anyone interested in being in the parade can contact Barb Corle or Michelle Hogan at 647-3510, or be there to line up on the south side of the Moline Christian Church at 10 a.m.  Monetary prizes are given away for the top three placing in several different categories.  Make sure and bring a sack for all the candy you’ll collect!

Following the parade, everyone is encouraged to go down to the park for the kids’ games, starting at noon.  The turtle race is the first event at noon.  Please have your turtle ready to check in by 11:45 a.m.  Some of the other games throughout the afternoon include the stick horse race (bring your own horse), 3-wheeler race (bring your own 3-wheeler), quarters in the sand, and water scoop relay.  There will be both kid and adult divisions of the egg toss and the water balloon toss.  Once again, monetary prizes are given away in each event.

Returning this year is the co-ed 4-on-4 volleyball tournament sponsored by the West Elk High School volleyball team.  Registration is $50 per team.  Contact Liz Hendricks at 620-330-2438 for more information and registration forms.

A new addition to the afternoon activities is a rock climbing wall sponsored by ECCEF.  This is available for all ages and sizes to participate in.

An inflatable water slide, sponsored by the Moline Chamber of Commerce and the Howard City Pool, will be set up for all the kids to enjoy, so bring your swim gear!

Several arts, crafts and gift item vendors will be set up in the park.  Many unique, locally made items will be available for purchase.  Anyone interested in having a booth should contact Stephanie Bogdahn at 647-3554.

The Elk County Cattlewomen will be in the park selling charcoaled hamburgers and all beef hot dogs provided and cooked by Rancher’s Best Beef, cold drinks and pie starting at noon.

The second annual rubber duck race is set for 2 p.m.  Ducks are currently available for purchase at several locations in Moline.  You may purchase a single duck for $5, a pack of ducks (5) for $20, a cluck of ducks (15) for $50, or a flock of ducks (30) for $100.  Lots of cash and prizes will be given away to the winners.  Proceeds go toward funding a community storm shelter.

Another much anticipated returning event is the lip sync contest, scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., or immediately following the duck race.  Any interested participants should contact Wanda Mills at 647-3462.  Contestants are sure to have a good time, as well as providing everyone else with one!  Monetary prizes will be awarded in each category.

A horseshoe tournament is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. at the horseshoe pits on the south side of the park (behind the airplane).  Contestants interested in participating should contact Damian Murphy at 647-3585.

Rounding out the day’s activities is the traditional hog roast, set for 6:30 p.m.  Meals (meat, sides, bread, and drink) are $7 for adults and $4 for kids 10 and under.  Special thanks goes to Michael and Venessa Hogan and Mike Mills for donating the hogs.

Following the hog roast at dusk will be the spectacular aerial fireworks display sponsored by the Moline Chamber of Commerce.  Music will be provided throughout the evening by Lightning J Productions.
