Extension plans Elk County tour

kstate-extension-colorThe 73rd annual Elk County Livestock and Conservation Tour will be Wednesday, June 16 in the southwest part of Elk County.  The tour will begin at the Community Building in Grenola at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and rolls.

Everyone will leave for the first tour stop at 8:15 a.m.  Tour stops and speakers include:

· Rob Miller — Show Cattle and Livestock Watering Systems.  During this stop, Dr. Don Coover of SEK Genetics will talk about “Reproductive Technologies in the Beef Cattle Industry.”

· Shawn and Dana Mills — Ranchers Best Beef, LLC.

· Wildflower and Plant Identification.  At this stop, Gary Kilgore, KSU Emeritus Professor, will be on hand to identify plants and wildflowers in a native hay meadow.

· Marion Reece — Multispecies grazing and EQIP Contract for Sericea Lespedeza Control.

· Ken Liebau — Livestock Watering and Intensive Grazing Fescue with Heifers.  At this stop, Doug Shoup, K-State Research and Extension Southeast Area Agronomist, will talk about “Cool Season Grass Production.”

The Livestock - Conservation Tour is sponsored by the Elk County Conservation District, Elk County Cattlewomen, Elk County Livestock Association, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Rolling Prairie Extension District.
