It may be a tight squeeze on timing, but the USD 282 West Elk Board of Education still plans to move all instructional activity to the Howard campus in August, it was confirmed at Monday night’s board meeting.
Supt. Corey Reese said approval still has not been granted by the Kansas State Department of Education to pay for the modular classrooms that will be a central part of the move, but he anticipates such approval to be made by May.
“It’s a pretty straight forward process,” said Reese. “We’re typically not allowed to spend money on a project until the state board meets and approves it, but we’re on track otherwise.”
Reese said the units are already built. Once approval is granted, it will be a matter of determining exactly where they will be placed, then crews will set them up during the summer months.
“We’ll be ready in August,” Reese said.
Also at Monday’s meeting, the board voted to reduce two days from this year’s school calender, making the final day of classes Tuesday, May 25, with a staff day on May 26.
The schedule for next year will pretty much mirror this year’s calendar, Reese said.
More information will be listed in the meeting minutes which will be published at a later date in Prairie Star.
