Flint Hills AG breaks ground

web-groundbreakingA new family life center will be constructed at the south edge of Howard soon, following groundbreaking ceremonies held Sunday.

The Flint HIlls Assembly of God is planning the facility which mostly will be a large gymnasium-like building, along with smaller rooms to be used for various purposes.
The church will continue to utilize its present worship building and sanctuary located at 115 N. Wabash in Howard.

Church leaders said the family life center is being built not only for its own members, but for use by the community and adjacent West Elk School, as well.

Genie Willhite from the congregation told the Sunday gathering that the facility could be used for weddings, funerals, banquets, camps, emergency needs and more.

“It is our further intent for this building to be available to the West Elk School campus in such ways as might benefit our youth and their families alike.

The first phase of the project is a 16,000 sq. ft. multipurpose building with gymnasium.

“A plan was formed for a facility to be used not only a few times a week, but be a place filled with daily activity, a home base from which to serve God and others,” she said.
Deacons David Criger, Wayne Willhite and Darrel Bish participated in the groundbreaking along with the leadership of Pastor Robin Haines.
