West Elk board calls special meeting for Monday

A special meeting of the USD 282-West Elk Board of Education has been called for next Monday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the board office at Howard.

The board will discuss potential sites for four modular classrooms which were purchased at Monday night’s regular meeting.

The four mobile units will comprise eight classrooms including restrooms in each modular and will be purchased for a total price of $244,779.

Supt. Corey Reese said the board spent considerable time at Monday’s meeting in a continuation of discussions about reconfiguring the district and its facilities to accommodate all instruction and activities at the Howard campus.

Reese said the board’s goal is to have the new mobile classrooms on site by May or June of this year, giving faculty members an opportunity get acclimated to the new environment and help with ideas to decorate them for their first use in August.

During the special meeting next Monday, the board’s agenda also includes action items on facilities, modulars, negotiations and personnel.
