NWS to present severe weather seminar in the area

78461122The National Weather Service in Wichita will present its annual severe weather seminar — “Storm Fury On the Plains” — at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Chautauqua County Courthouse in Sedan.
The public is invited to attend.

A similar program will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Cinema 8 in Winfield; 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the Eureka High School; and at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, at the Cox Building in Howard.

The National Weather Service in Wichita conducts spotter training sessions, which are normally scheduled throughout the spring months each year. Attendees are taught the basics of thunderstorm development, storm structure, the features to look for, and where to find them. What, when and how to report information as well as basic severe weather safety are also covered.

The session is a multi-media presentation, which includes detailed video. These spotter classes typically take about 90 minutes to two hours, and are open to the public.

No prior experience is required, and there is no registration necessary to attend.
