Kansas Day events slated for Friday

ks-flagAnother Kansas Day celebration will be hosted by the Sedan Elementalry School on Friday, Jan. 29, in the Chautauqua County Fair Building from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

Elementary teacher Cheryl Kopfman said there will be 35 exhibitors ranging from music, spinning wheels, embroidery, crocheting, quilting, blackpowder rifles, butter churning, biscuit making-arrowheads, fossils, rope making, wheat and corn grinding, apple peelers and potato mashers collection, tredle sewing machine, woodcarving, Indian history and artifacts, old fashioned lawnmowers, old washing machines and washboards,  and a newspaper exhibit.

“This just is a sample of the many exhibits that we will have,” Kopfman said.  The Kansas and Oklahoma Steam and Gas Engine Club from Winfield will be bringing many unusual exhibits.  Three to four hundred students from many area schools have been invited to attend.

There is concern about the weather forecast, and if school is cancelled the Kansas Day will be cancelled. If school is in session then the Kansas Day will be held.

“If it is cancelled we will not reschedule this year, but will have it next year,” said Kopfman. Check the taylornews.org website on Thursday and Friday and check local channels and radio stations to find out if school, and Kansas events, will be cancelled.

“We will cross our fingers and hope the weather cooperates,” Kopfman said.

“Come and join us in experiencing the past,” she said. “It’s what makes living in Kansas so great.”

The Kansas Day celebration will be open to the public.
