Sedan’s newest downtown business is “The Fit Zone” owned by Mike and Michelle Jones.

Located at 150 E. Main in the former Sugar Mine Company building, the Fit Zone is the result of intensive remodeling and carpenters were finishing their work today.

“We’re all a bit tired,” said a smiling Michelle. “But we’re really excited about bringing this fitness center to Sedan. We think it will make us all healthy and happy.”

The exterior of the building has been totally refurbished and painted, and the interior looks nothing like it did before.

An interior walking track features a rubber surface and it will require 19 laps to make a complete mile. Pedometers will be provided for those not wanting to count laps.

There are seven cardio machines plus 17 circult training machines, along with several free-weight stations.

There are treadmill machines, recumbent bikes and eliptical machines along with several large-screen TVs that customers can watch while working out.

Exercisers also can plug their headsets into the treadmills and eliptical machines so they can listen to music or the TVs.

One room features a tanning bed.

The Fit Zone will be available 24 hours a day to those who make arrangements for electronic key fobs. Michelle and Mike encourage families to utilize the facility, however only adults will be given access keys for after-hours.

There are 12 security cameras in the building.

“We want this to be a safe place to come and we have taken lots of steps toward making it that way,” she said.

The Fit Zone will generally be open to the public from 9 to 5, Mondays through Fridays, but they encourage everyone to consider joining one of the plans that will provide 24/7 access to the exercise and walking center.

“We are here to help our community stay healthy,” said Michelle. “We have been overwhelmed by the response so far. Lots of people are coming by to sign up, get keys and instructions on how to use the equipment.”
