Terry Ricketts, 58, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 7, 2009, in the St. Francis Hospital at Wichita where he had been a patient since Nov. 4 when he suffered a stroke.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m.
Survivors include a special aunt Alberta Harms of Wichita; special friend and companion Debby Hewlett of Wichita; mother Alma Ricketts of Greensburg, Kan.; brothers Richard Ricketts of Bartlesville, Okla., Dwight Ricketts of Greensburg, Kan., and Joe Ricketts of Denver, Colo.; and a sister Sue Hilgardener of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Ricketts owned an art studio in Sedan and was actively involved in the community, serving on the Sedan City Council, Sedan Area Economic Development Committee, Sedan Area Chamber of Commerce, and the National Historic and Preservation Society.
He designed, restored, and built numerous stained glass windows such as the one in the Epiphany Episcopal Church of Sedan and one in the Independence Public Library. Many of his artistic renderings are found in private homes and businesses in the Sedan community, as well as in Wichita where he previously lived and worked.
In recent months, he had been working on the restoration of the exterior of the Emmett Kelly Museum in Sedan.
A fund was previously established at the First National Bank in Sedan to help defray medical expenses, and donations still may be made for that purpose, and to help with funeral expenses. Donations may be made to: First National Bank of Sedan, P.O. Box E, Sedan, KS 67361.
