Elk and Chautauqua County 4-H groups show at State Fair

4-h-logoArea youth from each of the participating 4-H groups could be found this past week exhibiting their entries at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. Groups from both Elk and Chautauqua counties were in participation.

The 2009 Kansas State Fair is now in the history book.  Chautauqua County 4-H’ers had some great exhibits at this years fair.  The results are:

Jonathan Howard’s photograph and Macy Warburton’s photograph were chosen for the 4-H Foundation Selection.  The Foundation Selection Photographs will be featured in the 4-H Journal, the 4-H Calendar and in annual reports and various other publications.

Sarah Massey’s photograph was selected for the Traveling Collection.  These photographs will be exhibited at Kansas’ U.S. Senators and Representative Offices.

Congratulations to all Chautauqua County 4-H’ers who took the time and effort to send their exhibits to the 2009 Kansas State Fair.

“Nine in ‘09” was the theme for 4-H’ers this year at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.  For the first time this year, 4-H’ers age 9 or older were eligible to exhibit at the Kansas State Fair.  Previously, 4-H members had to be 10 years of age or older to exhibit.

Elk County 4-H’ers had 29 exhibits at the state fair this year as well as two members that participated in the 4-H/FFA Sheep Show.  Results are listed below broken into the different ribbon color groups.  The name the 4-H’ers is listed, followed by the exhibit/entry as well as their 4-H club name.  4-H club abbreviations are (FHB) - Flint Hill Boosters; (GW) - Greenfield Wildcats; and (LB) - Longton Boosters.

Sabetha and William Young of the Longton Boosters participated in the 4-H/FFA Sheep Show on Sept. 11-13.  Abbi Wittmeier’s color photo was selected for the State of Kansas 4-H Traveling Collection this year and Sabetha Young’s color photo was selected for the Rock Springs Display.
