dscf0027Dave Parsons of Sedan was shown to be a happy man after making a wild dash through Floyd’s Market last week.  He won the bid for a three-minute shopping spree at Floyd’s at the Sedan Area Foundation’s recent benefit auction for the Emmett Kelly Museum. Also pictured is Trisha Roudybush. The cash register in the background showed Parsons collected $1,003.84 in merchandise during his thee-minute dash with a grocery cart. While bids went high on most items at the auction, this grocery-shopping spree was the one that pulled the most attention — and dollars for a good cause.

flagsDeWayne Barnett of Sedan recently attended his 30th reunion of the fighting division to which he was attached during W.W.II.

The retired grocery store owner said there were only 19 of the original members of the 5th Armored Division who could attend the reunion which was held in Harrisburg, Penn. There were around 100 including friends and family who attended the banquet and tours to historical sites in the area.

blues-crowd There was a good crowd on hand for Saturday’s “Blues on the Green” in Longton. Bands included Doc Fuzz and the Antidotes from Independence, Kevin Pharis Band from Tulsa and the Howlerz band from the Winfield area. Richard and Kay Claytor have hosted this annual festival for the past 14 years in their spacious yard which comprises several acres. With many events being held in surrounding communities last weekend, the turnout was lower than usual but the Claytors are already making plans for next year’s Blues on the Green. Also held Saturday at the same location was the “Mason’s Day” celebration which was a fundraiser for a foundation founded earlir this year to provide support and awareness for individuals with autism.

Mertes and her family are volunteers with the Peru Rural Fire Department. As a member of the volunteer junior fire department and the Junior Community Emergency Response Team, Mertes is often called out with her family to assist with fires on a regular basis. World League Wrestling, in conjunction with the Chautauqua County Boy Scouts, will be coming on Saturday, Sept. 12 to the Sedan junior high (old) gymnasium.  The doors open at 6 p.m. and matches start at 7 p.m.

The event will feature six matches, including an “Eight Man Battle Royal.”  Headliners include “Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase and the “World’s Strongest Woman” Becca Swanson.  Eight time NWA World Champion Harley Race will also be on hand.  In addition, there will be an autograph session at the Green Door Cafe at 3:30 p.m. the day of the event.
