Sedan High School’s baseball team is the class 2A-1A regional champion and will advance to the class 2A-1A state tournament on May 29-30 in Emporia, Kan.
Sedan won the regional tournament by defeating West Elk, 7-6, in the regional championship finale on Tuesday.
Now 17-2, Sedan will enter the class 2A-1A state tournament as the third seed out of eight teams and will take on Humboldt, the sixth seed, in a 6:30 p.m., contest on Friday night, May 29.
A win against Humboldt would put the Blue Devils in a semi-final game against the winner of Pittsburg-Colgan/Chase County at 12:30 p.m., Saturday while a loss against Humboldt would end Sedan’s state tournament appearance.
The state tournament’s consolation game will be played at 3 p.m., while the championship game will be played at 5:30 p.m.
All tournament games will be played at Soden’s Grove in Emporia.

Sedan got to the regional finale after devouring Flinthills, 16-3, in the first game of the regional tournament.
A 7-6 victory over West Elk in the regional championship game put Sedan on the road to the state tournament.
In the Flinthills game, Sedan’s Casey Holt had a solid effort from the pitching mound. He threw for five innings and retired three batters while giving up two walks and six hits on three runs and two errors.
Holt also had a fine night with the bat as he belted three hits at in as many trip to the batter’s box. He also recorded five RBIs.
Casey Spurlock also had three hits and four runs in the game.
Against West Elk, Sedan trailed 5-2 in the fourth inning before adding four runs in the sixth inning and a game-winning run hit by Sam Powell in the ninth frame.
“We got down but did not quit,” said Rick Chrisman, Sedan head coach. “We stranded many runners but got great contributions all through our lineup.”
The hit list was led by Casey Spurlock, who combined for five hits in the two games while Casey Holt, Garrett Bane and Sam Powell added four hits each. Kolby Gorby, Justin Harter and Shon Pinard each finished with two hits while Taylor Green was credited with one hit.
Garrett Bane was the winner in the second game, throwing for nine full innings and giving up fie walks and four hits. He also retired 13 Patriot batters.
