West Elk High School senior Sonny Lee ended his track career Saturday with a slight dose of heartbreak: he finished in second place in the class 2A men’s 200 meter dash by a mere .03 of one second.

Lee settled for runner-up status after posting the top time in the preliminary round.  However, Manuel Acevedo of Sublette High School beat Lee to the finish line in 22.33 seconds while Lee came in second at 22.36 seconds.

The Sedan High School baseball team ended its season in the first round of the class 2A-1A state tournament in Emporia on Friday night.  Sedan was thumped by Humboldt, 14-4, to finish the Blue Devil year at 17-3.

blue-devilSedan High School’s baseball team is the class 2A-1A regional champion and will advance to the class 2A-1A state tournament on May 29-30 in Emporia, Kan.

Sedan won the regional tournament by defeating West Elk, 7-6, in the regional championship finale on Tuesday.

Now 17-2, Sedan will enter the class 2A-1A state tournament as the third seed out of eight teams and will take on Humboldt, the sixth seed, in a 6:30 p.m., contest on Friday night, May 29. Read more

baseballA Co-Ed Softball Tournament will be held at Severy on Saturday, June 6, at the Severy Ball Field.  The first game of the double elimination tournament will start at 9 a.m.
Co-ed teams must consist of a minimum of four women at all times.  The entry fee is $100 plus two softballs per team.  Though the entry date has been set for June 1, late entries will be accepted. Read more

A community cookout will be held to honor the baseball team at the city park in Sedan on Wednesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. Family, friends, and fans are invited to attend. An award presentation will follow after the meal. Attendees are asked to bring table service and a covered dish.

The Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans will compete in the class 2A-1A state softball tournament next Friday and Saturday, May 29-30, in Emporia, Kan.

The Spartans qualified for the state tournament after upsetting the Sedan Blue Devils, 3-2, in the class 2A-1A regional finale on Tuesday.
