Arrests made related to drugs and explosives

sheriff-holsterTwo Chautauqua County residents were arrested last Thursday after law enforcement officers searched their house in Cedar Vale and allegedly found explosive devises and drugs.

Sheriff Perry Russell said his office conducted a search of 608 Lawrence Street in Cedar Vale, with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Kansas Fire Marshal’s office and local police departments.

Arrested at the scene were Marvin T. Smith, 32, and Holly Unruh, 33, both of the residence.

Russell said investigations by his department led to the siezure of numerous pipe bombs in various stages of construction and several homemade gun silencers.

One military smoke grenade and some marijuana also were allegedly found in the residence.

The case has been submitted to the Chautauqua County Attorney’s office for prosecution.
