MANHATTAN — Kansas 4-H members from across the state gathered recently at Kansas State University to test their knowledge of livestock and livestock related subjects. Contests were conducted for livestock judging, meats judging and livestock skillathon by the KSU animal Science Department and K-State Research and Extension.

Without fanfare or even public notice, Montgomery County quietly slipped into her 140th year of organized existence on Wednesday.

It was on June 3, 1869, when Gov. James M. Harvey officially organized Montgomery County after the county met the requisite population of 600 souls.
