The U.S. Postal Service has announced several more post offices in the Montgomery County area are being studied for closure.
In June, the U.S. Postal Service announced that Havana and Sycamore post offices were on a list of Kansas post offices being studied for possible closure or consolidation. This week, that list was expanded to include Tyro in Montgomery County.
Other area towns in southeast Kansas that made the most recent list for consolidation or closure include Dennis in Labette County, Peru and Chautauqua in Chautauqua County, West Mineral in Cherokee County, and Benedict in Wilson County.
Other post offices previously targeted by the U.S. Postal Service for closure include Havana, Sycamore, Niotaze, and Elk Falls, among others.
