Passauer, Wood named 4-H Fair queen, king

INDEPENDENCE — Hayleigh Passauer and Ty Wood were crowned Montgomery Counkingqueenty 4-H Fair queen and king during coronation ceremonies Tuesday night at Memorial Hall.

Passauer, a member of the Valley Victors 4-H Club, and Wood, a member of the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club, will hand out ribbons and plaques throughout the remainder of this week’s 90th Annual Montgomery County 4-H Fair.

Representatives from each of the county’s nine 4-H chapters were considered for fair royalty honors. In the competition for queen, second runner-up went to Josie Reilly of the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. First runner-up was Alexa Maulsby of the Fawn Creek 4-H Club.

In the race for king, A.J. Capps of the Valley Victors 4-H Club was second runner-up while Cody O’Brien of the Peppy Progressive 4-H Club was first runner-up.

Other king candidates included Gabe Evans, Bolton Trailblazers; Kadyn Covey, Cheery Cherokees; Bradley Hershey, Rambling Rangers; Andrew Anderson, Caney Pioneers; Daniel Bowers, Flying Frontiers. Other queen candidates included Trinnie Bush, Flying Frontiers, Estie Monroe, Caney Pioneers; Abby Ewing, Peppy Progressive; Serenity Johnson, Rambling Rangers, Kenda Uhls, Cheery Cherokees; and Jasmine Amey, Bolton Trailblazers.

Following the coronation, the 4-H Fair Style Revue was held with 4-Her’s exhibiting and displaying a variety of clothing styles, including purchased garments and constructed items.

Fair activities continue this week at Riverside Park in Independence. Listed below is the slate of events:

After the style revue, events will move to Riverside Park where the bulk of fair activities will be held.

• Thursday, July 28 — Rabbit judging at 7 p.m.; other livestock entries from 6 p.m to 9 p.m.

• Friday, July 29 — Entry of all exhibits by noon; conference judging of all food exhibits from 8:30 a.m. to 111:30 a.m.; judging of indoor exhibits and poultry, 1 p.m.; presentation of awards, 5:45 p.m.; 4-H fair food exhibitor auction, 6 p.m.; swine judging, 7 p.m.

• Saturday, July 30 — Dairy goat judging, 8 a.m.; bucket calf exhibitor interview, 9 a.m.; dairy cattle judging, 9 a.m.; arts and crafts judging, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; sheep judging and goat judging, 6 p.m.

• Sunday, July 31 — Inspirational celebration at show ring, 9 a.m.; kiddie tractor pull, 3 p.m.; bucket calf championship, 5 p.m.; beef judging (to follow bucket calf championship).

• Monday, Aug. 1 — Clean-up of fair buildings and livestock barns; presentation of awards, 6:45 p.m.; livestock premium sale, 7 p.m.
