Four area people arrested in theft ring

Two Havana residents and two people from Tyro were arrested last Friday following an investigation into a theft ring operating all over the western half of Montgomery County.

Arrested were Jerry M. Lawson, age 48, of Tyro; Jesse E. Moore, age 27, of Havana; Tamara G. Lawson, age 22, of Havana; and Devlin E. McConnell, age 35 of Tyro. Dierks said the four are believed to be responsible for several area thefts and burglaries, including the burglary of the Lone Cherry Church near Havana.

The four people will face charges of burglary, theft and possession of stolen property.

Dierks said the sheriff’s office had been conducting surveillance in the western half of Montgomery County for the past several weeks after receiving numerous complaints of theft, including theft of oil field equipment. Surveillance on the morning of Friday, June 24 revealed a vehicle pulling into an oil pump house on county road 2400. A sheriff’s deputy then made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. Through an investigation, the vehicle was registered to a person in Havana.

Further investigation in that Havana residence revealed numerous pieces of stolen property.

Dierks said an investigation into the theft ring continues and more arrests may occur if search warrants successfully recovers more stolen items.

Any person with information regarding these thefts may contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department at 1-800-498-1019. Callers may remain anonymous.
