CHERRYVALE — Watco, Inc., the parent company of the Cherryvale-based South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad, will unveil a special diesel locomotive on Tuesday in Cherryvale.

Company employees have converted a Watco diesel locomotive, known for its customary black and yellow colors, into a blue and white locomotive with Charger mascot emblems on the sides and front.  Company officials said the special Charger locomotive was designed as a goodwill gesture for the Cherryvale community and will serve as a regular locomotive on the SKO Railroad line.

The unveiling of the Charger diesel locomotive will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, at the Cherryvale Depot.  The public is invited to attend.

Two former employees of Coffeyville Community College face criminal charge of check forgery that resulted in the alleged theft of more than $100,000 from CCC coffers.

According to court documents, Nicholas A. DeVivo and Melissa D. DeVivo, husband and wife of South Coffeyville, Okla., were arrested last week by the Coffeyville Police Department. They each are charged of three counts: forgery, making a false writing, and theft in value of $100,000 or more.

The court documents do not indicate when the transactions took place in which the DeVivos allegedly forged their names on CCC checks.

According to other public documents, Nicholas DeVivo is a former CCC cheerleading coach, and Melissa DeVivo served as the college’s director of business services.

The DeVivos posted $25,000 bond following their arrests and will return to the Montgomery County District Court for their first formal appearance on July 7. Judge Roger Gossard has been assigned to hear the case in district court.

If convicted, each of the DeVivos can face seven to 23 months in prison for the forgery and making a false writing charges plus pay $100,000 in fines. If convicted of theft, they could face 31 to 136 months in prison and pay a $300,00 fine.

As in all criminal cases, they are innocent until proven guilty by an admission of guilty or a jury conviction.
