INDEPENDENCE — A New York college director will be the new president of Independence Community College.

ICC trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously to name Dr. Daniel Barwick, director of institutional advancement at Alfred State College in New York, as college president effective Aug. 1.

Barwick replaces Dr. Daniel Bain, who will leave the ICC presidential post at the end of the June.
Barwick was one of 27 applicants for the ICC presidential post and was in a field of six semi-finalists when campus interviews were conducted in late May.

Barwick has been at Alfred State College, which is located in Alfred, N.Y., for 12 years where he currently holds the title of director of institutional advancement and associate professor of philosophy.

During his time at Alfred State, Barwick has held a number of administrative roles, including honors program coordinator, coordinator of assessment, interim director of corporate relations, interim director of development, and director of development. He was the first SUNY Provost Fellow, and also served as an academic policy and planning evaluation associate for the SUNY system. Barwick has remained an active teacher and scholar, publishing frequently.

Barwick holds a doctorate in philosophy from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Iowa, and a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo, also in philosophy. He has also completed the CASE Summer Institute in Educational Fundraising at Dartmouth College, and the Asheville Institute on General Education.
