INDEPENDENCE — Many family activities are planned for the annual spring celebration at Little House on the Prairie Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 23.
There will be history re-enactors and other activities for children and adults at Little House, which is an official Laura Ingalls Wilder homesite located 12 miles south of Independence off Hwy. 75.
“We always plan this celebration for late April to allow spring weather to warm up and provide our visitors with the best experience possible,” said Michelle Martin, historical director, who will be one of the re-enactors, portraying Caroline Ingalls (“Ma”) at home in the log cabin.
Also on hand as “Mister Edwards” will be Paul Marshall, Peru.
The attraction also includes a one-room schoolhouse, the actual well hand-dug by Charles Ingalls, and other features of 19th century prairie life. The Ingalls family, immortalized by daughter Laura in her famed children’s books, lived on the property from 1869 to 1871.
The non-profit Little House on the Prairie Museum is dedicated to preserving the homestead location of the Ingalls family.
Admission is free with a suggested donation of $3 for adults, $1 for children.
Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 31.
