Cherryvale park to get new livestock barn

Two Logan Park structures that  have become eyesores in recent years will soon be demolished to make way for an outdoor livestock barn, city councilors determined Monday.

City councilors took no formal action at Monday’s work session regarding a plan by the Cherryvale Youth Fair Association to remove the two structures, commonly known as the Girl Scout houses, but were unanimous in their support for the association’s plans to remove the buildings and erect a new livestock barn in their place. Councilors are expected to take formal action on the proposal at their March 21 meeting.

Sharon Blaes of the Cherryvale Youth Fair Association said the association had been raising money for several years to erect a 40’ x 52’ livestock barn to complement the existing livestock barn near the Logan Park Community Building. The second livestock barn is necessary due to the increased number of participants in the annual Cherryvale Youth Fair, Blaes said.

Under the plan put forward by the association, the association would pay for the construction of a livestock barn, which would be turned over to the City of Cherryvale once it is erected.
