COPAN — A Hulah Lake state park operated by the Oklahoma Tourism Department will close in August due to budget cuts.
Wah-Sha-She State Park, located on the west side of the Hulah Lake dam, is one of 10 state parks to face closures. The closures of the 10 state parks will save the state nearly $700,000 per year.
Other Oklahoma state parks to close will be Adair State Park in Stilwell; Beaver Dunes in Beaver; Boggy Depot in Atoka; Brushy Lake in Sallisaw; Heavener Runestone in Heavener; and Lake Eucha in Jay.
Deby Snodgrass, Tourism Department executive director, said in a press release that the Tourism Department is looking to create partnerships with community and tribal leaders that might help keep the affected parks viable.
