Two Coffeyville residents are in custody Wednesday following a late evening drug raid in Coffeyville.

Sheriff Roberts Dierks indicated that deputies had conducted an investigation regarding alleged drug activity at 1413 W. First in Coffeyville and executed a search warrant for that property late Wednesday.

Seventeen local condemned properties will face the wrecking ball soon following approval of demolition bids at Tuesday’s Coffeyville City Commission meeting.

Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the demolition bids for the 17 structures, which have been declared condemned due to their unsafe and hazardous conditions. Property owners have been given time to make repairs to the properties, however commissioners pressed to have the properties torn down after property owners failed to make the necessary upgrades.

A Caney native recently was promoted to the highest enlisted office in the Texas Air National Guard.

Marcus Falleaf, now residing in Houston, Texas, with his wife Vicki, was recently promoted to the post of Chief Master Sergeant in the Texas Air National Guard and also has assumed the position of human resource advisor — a post that will allow him to work directly with the Adjutant General in Texas in the areas of force management, force development and diversity education.

A benefit concert and silent auction will be held on Sunday, Feb. 13 to raise money for the Calanche and Hester families of Cherryvale, who lost their homes to fires in late 2010.

The event will be held at the Independence Memorial Hall with doors opening at noon and the first show starting at 1 p.m.

A Belgian Malinois dog that has a trained nose for sniffing out drugs in tight or hidden spaces has now become the property of the City of Cherryvale.

Cherryvale city councilors Monday approved the ownership of Quantum, a 4-year-old dog with a trained nose for narcotics searches. Quantum belongs to Cherryvale police officer Craig Medsker, but the transfer agreement calls for Quantum to be the official ownership of the City of Cherryvale. Medsker will remain the dog’s handler. Medsker will be allowed to regain ownership of the dog should he leave the Cherryvale Police Department.
