CANEY — Speeders traveling on Caney city streets will have to dip into their pocketbooks deeper because of increases to various fines approved by city councilors on Monday.
Councilors voted 5-1, with councilor Jason Moore casting the lone dissenting vote, to approve an ordinance that brings the city’s traffic ordinances in compliance with the Standard Traffic Ordinance, 2010 edition (the city had been operating under the 2007 edition). The ordinance calls for increases for speeding violations to stay in line with what neighboring towns impose.
Violations in school zones or construction zones will be double the regular amount.
Failing to wear a seat belt will also bring a heftier fee. The ordinance calls for seat belt failure fines to increase $40 to $60 and includes court costs.
More details about the Caney City Council meeting are printed in Feb. 24 edition of the Montgomery County Chronicle.
