Samuel Curtis Mitchell, Jr.

OWASSO, Okla. — Caney native Samuel Curtis Mitchell, Jr., age 70, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.  He graduated from Caney High School in 1948.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso, Okla. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, aat the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney.

INDEPENDENCE — Frederick H. Redman, age 86, of Independence died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held today (Thursday), Feb. 24 at 1 p.m., at Mount Hope Cemetery.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Former Independence resident Trek N. Simpson, age 56, of St. Louis, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at the Cedars Nursing Center in St. Louis.

Graveside funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m., at Mount Hope Cemetery.  Interment will be under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel.  The casket has been closed.

The family has suggested memorial remembrances to the Sisters of Mercy of Independence, Kansas and remembrances will be received at the funeral home.

PROTECTION, Kan. – Lorene (Myers) Craft, 69, a native of Elgin, Kan., and most recently a resident of Protection, Kan., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Moore-Prairie Cemetery near Elgin under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Caney.

INDEPENDENCE — Allison Elizabeth Suzanne Detar (Newman), age 14, of Independence died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

Allison will be in state from noon to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25 at Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence. The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Caney.  Burial will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery in rural Caney.

Memorial remembrances may be made to the family and will be received at the funeral home.

VALLIANT, Okla. – Tom Hunter, age 67, of Valliant, Okla., and formerly of the Caney-Tyro area, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at his home.

CANEY – Linda L. Warfield, 69, of Caney, Kan., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Caney with the Rev. Dan DeWitt officiating, under the direction of Potts Chapel in Caney.

Memorial remembrances may be given to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Disabled Veterans Association and these may be left at Potts Chapel in Caney.

His Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Caney, with Pastor Kenneth Lott officiating. Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery,Caney, under the direction of Potts Chapel of Caney.

INDEPENDENCE — Independence resident Diana Dunn Tindle, age 85, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Mercy Hospital.

PARSONS — Eulonda M. (Jewett) Crevling, age 81, of Parsons and formerly of Cherryvale died on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale. Visitation will be held from noon until service time on Tuesday at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

CANEY — Ruth N. Knisley, age 77, of Caney died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at her daughter’s home in Independence.
