Damon “Chub” Anderson, a key figure in the murder of Oklahoma rancher E.C. Mullendore III in September 1970, died on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at the age of 70.

Funeral services are pending with David W. Barnes Funeral Home and will be posted on the Montgomery County Chronicle website (www.taylornews.org/mcc) once they are made available.

Anderson was a resident in an area nursing home at the time of his death and, according to persons who knew Anderson personally, had battled a multitude of illnesses ever since his release from a Kansas prison several year ago.

Anderson was the personal body guard to E.C. Mullendore III when the rancher was gunned down at his rural Copan, Okla., ranch 40 years ago.  At the time of his murder, Mullendore had one of the most sizable life insurance policies in the life industry business.  It was made necessary after Mullendore managed a ranch that was neck-deep in debt, which was made even more shaky with rumors of Mullendore’s dealings with the mob.

Mullendore’s murder was never solved, and even though Anderson was shot in the arm while reportedly trying to protect his boss, he was believed to have more information that was let on about the murder.

An Oklahoma investigative reporter, Dale Lewis, interviewed Anderson on repeated occasions one Anderson was returned to Kansas authorities after spending more than 15 years on the loose in Montana.

Lewis indicates that Anderson divulged more details about the night Mullendore was killed.  Those details were written in a book that Lewis hopes will be published in the near future.

Lewis also portions of his video interviews of Chub Anderson available at his website at www.originalbuffalodale.com.
