CANEY — A 40-year-old Caney man has been arrested following the investigation into a Chautauqua County home invasion and the theft of several firearms.

Sheriff Robert Dierks said Shawn G. Timmerman, age 40, was arrested at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23 after a search warrant was executed at his Caney home.  Dierks said law enforcement had received information that Timmerman had several stolen firearms in his possessions — firearms that were believed to have been taken in the home invasion.

COFFEYVILLE — homeA century-old Coffeyville home has been nominated for the National Register of Historic Places.

The Kansas State Historical Society’s Historic Sites Board of Review on Saturday voted to forward the nomination of the Charles M. Ball House at 702 Spruce for inclusion on the national register

Now owned by Walt and Virginia Miller, the Ball house was built between 1906 and 1908. The structure combines the irregular Queen Anne house form with Classical Revival stylistic features and captures an important transitional period in architecture when the two styles were commonly blended.

Cherryvale area residents are invited to participate in a Christmas lighting contest sponsored by the Cherryvale Chamber of Commerce.

Residents are encouraged to decorate their homes in holiday regalia and lights. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, Dec. 15 with the judging to be held during the evening hours the following weekend.

CANEY — Next Thursday night, Dec. 2, will be the official debut for Santa Claus as he ushers in the Christmas season at the Caney Christmas Parade at 7 p.m., in downtown Caney.

The parade is sponsored annually by the Caney Chamber of Commerce. In case of inclement weather, the parade will be rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. Following the parade, Santa will be visiting with boys and girls at the  Christian Cowboy Ministries Church, 4th and State. Candy will also be given to each boy and girl.

Cherryvale community members will celebrate the holiday season when the Cherryvale Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual Cherryvale Christmas Parade on Thursday, Dec. 2.

For the second consecutive year, the parade will be held at night (starting at 6:30 p.m.) with parade entries encouraged to be festooned in lights to brighten the holiday atmosphere.

CHERRYVALE — The Cherry Blossom Festival will have a new feature beginning in 2011: the coronation of the Cherry Blossom Festival Queen.

On Monday, members of the Cherryvale Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the festival, heard details about the queen contest, which is designed to enhance the festival activities while also promoting ideal citizenship among teenage girls.
