Montgomery County Sheriff Robert Dierks announced today that two area men are in custody following an intense investigation into area home burglaries.
Dierks stated that his officers responded to a residential burglary call Sunday evening, Oct. 17, involving a white male and a black male suspect in a blue truck where an alert neighbor had seen the men at the victim’s residence and had followed them attempting to get tag information.
Sheriff Dierks stated that on Sunday, the neighbor lost sight ofthe suspects before officers could get into the area, however the neighbor saw the same truck and suspects back at the victim’s residence on Tuesday and once again followed them while talking with the Sheriff’s Office by cell phone. This time, Dierks said that the neighbor was able to get a license tag and as Officers got into the area, an officer spotted the suspects coming into Independence and stopped the vehicle. Dierks said that his officers made contact with Glen Dale Self II, age 25, of Independence as well as Amos Cole Jr., age 45, of Fredonia. Dierks stated that Officers discovered that Mr. Self had a warrant for his arrest and they discovered items in the truck belonging to a burglary victim so both Self and Cole were taken into custody.
Sheriff Dierks said that investigators discovered items in Cole’s vehicle which appeared to be packaged for shipping and learned that many of the stolen items from the Sunday burglary were listed for sale on Ebay under Mr. Cole’s address in Fredonia. Sheriff Dierks stated that his investigators served a Search Warrant and recovered several of the stolen items from Mr. Cole’s vehicle.
Investigators then went to Mr. Coles residence and discovered a large number of
stolen items, which were recovered. Sheriff Dierks indicated that it appeared through the investigation that Mr. Self and Mr. Cole had made numerous trips to the same victim’s house and had removed a significant amount of property, much of which was recovered.
Dierks stated that the recommended charges for Mr. Self and Mr. Cole will
be burglary, felony theft, and criminal damage to property.
Sheriff Dierks praised the work of his officers and Investigators on this case, but wanted the public to know that what really made this case possible was simply an alert neighbor who was willing to call the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Dierks encourages Montgomery County residents to remain vigilant for criminal activity in their neighborhoods and to call any time they see suspicious activity.
“The public’s support as well as their willingness to call and report criminal activity is vital to our goal of keeping Montgomery County a safe place to live,” stated Dierks. Dierks
also wished to thank the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office for their help as officers recovered property near Fredonia.
