“Conquer the Tornadoes” is theme for the 2010 fall sports homecoming week at Cherryvale High School, which culminates on Friday, Oct. 8, with the crowning of the 2010 homecoming queen.
The CHS Student Council is the sponsor of this year’s homecoming events, which has specific themes for each day. Among the themes earlier this week were “Frighten the Tornadoes” (Monday), “Slay the Tornadoes” (Tuesday), “Justify the Tornadoes (Wednesday) and “Rock the Tornadoes” (Thursday).
On Friday, CHS students are to wear blue and white.
Other homecoming events include a Thursday (tonight) bonfire at the south end of of the CHS parking lot beginning at 8 p.m.
A homecoming parade will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8 and travel through the downtown business district before culminating with a pep rally at Logan Park.
Coronation of the CHS homecoming queen will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday at Logan Park Stadium. CHS senior girls vying for the crown are Kendra Beye, Amy Hougardy and Mary Reilly. Their escorts are Micah Booe, Tevis Linnebur and Joe Johnston.
Kickoff for the Eureka/Cherryvale football game will begin at 7 p.m., at Logan Park Stadium.
Following the game, a homecoming dance for CHS students and their registered guests will be held at the CHS Commons Area until midnight. Admission is $4 per person or $7 per couple.

The Cherryvale Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a tailgate party competition in celebration of the Cherryvale High School homecoming activities on Friday, Oct. 8.
Events will begin at 3 p.m., at Logan Park, including inflatable amusements for kids. The inflatable activities will remain in the park until 8 p.m.
Tailgate competitors will have their party areas open to the public in Logan Park. Each tailgate party area will accept donations on food (while supplies last) to be given to designated school programs, classes or organizations). The tailgate party area will be on the east of the Logan Park Stadium and north of the Cherryvale Swimming Pool.
The public will vote on the tailgate party that exhibits the best spirit.
