Explosion reported at Coffeyville Resources

COFFEYVILLE — No injuries were reported in an explosion at the Coffeyville Resources Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant shortly after 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30.

Steve Ames, a company spokesperson, said the explosion took place in an Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN) production facility.  All employees are accounted for, and damage was contained to one area of the plant.

Although the incident was heard throughout the area surrounding the plant, no impact was recorded beyond the facility’s fence line.  Non-essential personnel were evacuated from the plant and the adjacent refinery as a precaution.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation, Eames said.  No damage estimate was immediately available.
