BARTLESVILLE — Darla Renee (Bishop) Hawthorne, age 47, of Bartlesville passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, in the Walker-Brown Chapel in Bartlesville, Okla., with Pastor Dan DeWitt officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home.

CANEY – Johnie Dean Surrett, age 87, of Caney, Kan., died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at the Wilson County Hospital in Neodesha, Kan.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at the Potts Chapel in Caney. Burial followed in Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney, under the direction of Potts Chapel, Caney.
The family has suggested memorials to the Disabled American Veterans and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel, Caney.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Former Caney school teacher Edgar M. “Ed” McBride, age 85, of Joplin, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at his home after a battle with cancer.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin, Mo. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Parker Mortuary, 1502 S. Joplin Street, in Joplin, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to theAmerican Heart Association.

PARSONS – Former Cherryvale High School graduate Neal Shepard, age 81, of rural Parsons, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at St. John’s Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.
His graveside service with military honors was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Potts Chapel.

COFFEYVILLE — Dorothy Elizabeth (Armstrong) Bonham, age 91, of Coffeyville, died Saturday morning, Sept. 25, 2010 in the Cambridge Unit of Windsor Place Care Center, Coffeyville.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville with burial at Coffeyville’s Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory.

DEARING — Robert J. Ward, age 76, of Dearing died Wednesday morning, Sept. 15, 2010 at Continuous Care Center in Bartlesville, Okla.

FRONTENAC, Kan. — Cherryvale native M. Lorene Holliday, age 89, of Frontenac, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at the Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg.
She lived in Cherryvale for many years before moving to the Pittsburg/Frontenac area where she was currently residing at the time of her death. She graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1939.
Memorial services were held Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale under the direction of Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac.

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Betty J. Biedleman, age 89, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and formerly of Independence, died Thursday evening, Sept 16, 2010, at Clarehouse in Tulsa.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 20, at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel with Dee Williamston, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Independence, officiating. Interment was at the Mount Hope Cemetery.
The family has suggested memorial remembrances to Clarehouse in Tulsa, Okla. Remembrances will be received at the funeral home.

FORT SCOTT — Keitha Ruth Bohlander, age 86, of Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at her home.
A retired Fort Scott Community College history teacher and counselor, Bohlander taught at Cherryvale High School in the mid- to late-1950s.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14, Cheney Witt Chapel in Fort Scott. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery at Walnut, Kan.
Memorials in her honor may be given to the Keitha Bohlander Scholarship Fund at the Fort Scott Community College.

INDEPENDENCE — Grady Bishop, Jr., age 87, of Independence died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at Regal Estates in Independence.
Bishop will be in state today (Thursday) until 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, at Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel with the Reverend Mel Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorial remembrances may be made to VFW Post 1186 in care of the funeral home.

INDEPENDENCE – Larry “Dean” Johnson, 73, of Independence, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at the Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life service will be held Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at 10 a.m., at Potts Chapel, Independence. There will be no inurnment.

WAYSIDE – Dr. Taylor L. Marshall, age 84, of Wayside, Kan., went to be with the Lord, Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at his home in Wayside.
His funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at the Assembly of God Church in Caney, Kan., with the Rev. Mike Morris officiating. Burial followed in the Havana Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney.
The family has suggested memorials to the Assembly of God Church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Disabled American Veterans.

CHERRYVALE — Lewis Duncan Ellis, age 86, of Cherryvale died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at the Cherryvale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Cherryvale.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at the Cherryvale Christian Church with Pastor Andy Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale.
Visitation hours will be held until 8 p.m., tonight (Thursday) with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale.

CANEY — Longtime Caney resident 1st Lt. Hugh B. Mantooth (USMC Retired) passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at the Potts Chapel. Memorial services were held Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, with Rev. Brad Sanders officiating. Burial was at Sunnyside cemetery in Caney with full military honors.
The family requests memorials be sent to the Can-Kan Dreambuilders Fund to help with the building of a new library.

ELK CITY — Edwin P. Crosslin, age 88, of Elk City died Friday morning at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Elk City United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mark Loftin, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City.
Graveside military rites will be performed by a detachment from the United States Navy.
The family suggests memorial remembrances to the Elk City United Methodist Church and remembrances will be received at the funeral home.
