Coffeyville fire under investigation

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing to investigate a fire that destroyed a local home and spread to an adjacent property on Tuesday afternoon.

Coffeyville interim fire chief Jim Grimmett said a preliminary investigation into the fire at 1313 S. Willow on Tuesday afternoon has determined the fire was intentionally set.

No further details on the fire’s origin or investigation were revealed.

Grimmett said the home was entirely engulfed in flames and smoke when firefighters arrived shortly before 2 p.m. They remained on scene until about 5:45 p.m.

Grimmett said the home, owned by Robert Rench, was a total loss with a value of about $25,000. The fire spread to an adjacent property, causing about $10,000 in damages, he said.

No one was home when the fire was reported to the Coffeyville Fire Department, he said.

Grimmett said one firefighter was treated at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for heat exhaustion.
