Road construction worker killed Monday near Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE — A construction worker on the U.S. 169 highway project east of Coffeyville was killed in a collision with a semi-tractor trailer on Monday morning, July 26.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said Reinhold Blomquist III, age 52, of Iola, Kan., was a construction worker on the project site when, while working in a construction zone, he was preparing to unload asphalt. Blomquist stepped into the path of a 1999 Peterbuilt semi-tractor trailer driven by George A. Griggs, age 37, of Dewey, Okla.  Blomquist was struck by the trailer portion of the semi.

Blomquist was taken to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Griggs was not injured in the collision.
