A 31-year-old Caney man was arrested on Tuesday, June 23, for allegedly making bomb threats to two Bartlesville businesses.
Police chief Rick Pell said Aaron Leon Perkins, age 31, of 401 S. Wood, was arrested after receiving information that Perkins had said he had planted bombs at the Walmart Supercenter and Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville and was seeking a large amount of money as ransom.
The Independence Police Department was the first to be contacted about the situation after receiving a 911 phone call from Perkins seeking the payment. The E911 dispatch center in Independence contacted the Caney Police Department because the Independence dispatch center saw that the call was coming by cellular telephone from the Caney area. Detective Ron Wade of the Caney Police Department then narrowed the cell phone call to the Perkins residence at 401 S. Wood. During a search of the home, officers found the cellular phone that was allegedly used to make the bomb threats.
Wood was taken into custody where he expects to be charged with two counts of aggravated criminal threat with intent to terrorize or evacuate and two counts of falsely reporting a crime.
Pell said he appreciated the help and support from the Independence and Bartlesville police departments in this situation and noted that quick action by all officers resolved the matter without any injuries or harm.
Pell also said the situation was an ongoing investigation and that more charges or arrests were possible.
Persons with information about this or other suspicious activity should call the Caney Police Department at (620) 879-2141. Callers can remain anonymous.
