A Coffeyville city commissioner on Tuesday sought the resignation of Jeff Morris as city manager.

Morris remained quiet during commissioner Jim Taylor, Sr.’s allegations that Morris had not done his job well. Taylor specifically mentioned the “sloppy work of staff” in the lease agreement between the City of Coffeyville and Coffeyville Community College as a reason for having Morris replaced.

Taylor also said that everything involving the City of Coffeyville had “turned into a mess” because of the city staff and a majority of the city commission that follows the staff’s lead.

COFFEYVILLE — Taxpayers in the Coffeyville Community College tax district, which includes residents in Coffeyville, Dearing, Tyro, Caney and Havana, will now shoulder the bulk of the operational costs to maintain Veterans Memorial Stadium in Coffeyville under a lease agreement approved by CCC and the City of Coffeyville earlier this week.

The stadium, which opened in 2001, is owned and maintained by the City of Coffeyville. It is used primarily for football, track and soccer programs at Coffeyville Community College and Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville.

A 31-year-old Caney man was arrested on Tuesday, June 23, for allegedly making bomb threats to two Bartlesville businesses.
