CHERRYVALE — A Cherryvale man faces numerous vehicle charges following a motorcycle chase that left the man injured late Thursday night, May 20.

Police chief Matt Dennis says local police spotted Douglas Heiskell, age 28, of Cherryvale driving a motorcycle without a visible license plate on Main Street shortly after 11:15 p.m., Thursday.  When the police officer attempted to pull Heiskell to the side of the road, Heiskell sped away on Main Street, traveling in an easterly direction at speeds reaching 90 miles per hour.

At the intersection of East Main and Olive streets, Heiskell took a wide turn in the parking lot of Cherry Hill Express. He attempted to return to Olive Street but lost control of the motorcycle after applying the front brake. Heiskell was flipped from the motorcycle and landed in a ditch, knocking him unconscious.

He was taken to Labette Health in Parsons for treatment of injuries. He was released from the hospital about three hours later.

Heiskell faces a multitude of charges, including fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment of a vehicle, reckless driving, speeding 90 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone, driving while suspended, failure to register a vehicle, failure to display a license plate, and driving without a motorcycle license. Several other vehicle-related infractions will be assessed against Heiskell, said Dennis.
