Two rural Coffeyville people were arrested following the discovering of a massive amount of stolen property last Tuesday.
Sheriff Robert Dierks said not only was the discover of the stolen items deemed “phenomenal” but so, too, was the discovery of drugs, including methamphetamine and marijuana, at the home of Scott and Cindy Ford.
The two people were arrested last Tuesday, April 20, after the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department received a tip regarding stolen property being held in the Fords’ residence.
After executing a search warrant, detectives discovered the home was packed with more than $100,000 in stolen items. The thefts of the items are believed to have been conducted in the Coffeyville and Independence areas as well as Chanute and Greenwood County.
“The amount and sheer volume of property that we have recovered for victims here is phenomenal,” said Dierks. “We have accounted for a huge amount of property that we are pleased to be able to get back to these victims.”
The recovered property ranged from a stolen Kubota tractor, trailer and brush hog to antique furniture, dishes, silverware and jewelry. Firearms were also located in the residence. Dierks said the it was unlawful for Scott Ford to possess the firearms because of a prior felony conviction.
Investigators also discovered evidence that methamphetamine was or had been manufactured on the property as well as marijuana plants that were being cultivated on the property.
Dierks stated that his department worked the scene last Tuesday, April 20, through Sunday, April 25.
Recommended charges for Scott and Cindy Ford will be attempted manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana, cultivation of marijuana,
possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a weapon.
Dierks indicated that the case was ongoing and that his investigators continue to follow leads and are tracking down other property that may be stolen.
