COFFEYVILLE — A Coffeyville man was found dead at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center on Sunday evening.

Commander Mike Brown of the Coffeyville Police Department confirmed the discovery of Christopher Lee Owens, age 40, of 908 W. Third, Coffeyville.

Police were called to CRMC at about 9:30 p.m., Sunday by hospital personnel who found a significant amount of blood in a stairwell inside the hospital. While officers were en route to CRMC to investigate the blood, a CRMC employee discovered Owens’ body in a utility closet.

Evidence found at the scene concluded that Owens had committed suicide. An autopsy on Monday confirmed that Owens died of self-inflicted knife wounds.

Brown said Owens was not a patient at CRMC at the time of his death, nor was he an employee of the hospital.
