COFFEYVILLE — Hayley Oneslager has been holding on to a dream for several years that she would someday rub elbows with her dancing idol: Paula Abdul.

The Field Kindley High School senior cheerleader said her dream was so well known in the school hallways that classmates and friends would tease her.

“Quit dreaming about meeting Paula because there’s no way you are ever going to do it,” Hayley said, reciting the responses she would get from her friends when conversations turned to dancing idol Paula Abdul, best known in recent years as one of the judges on the popular television show “American Idol.”

And, even when Oneslager, whom she describes herself as an “obsessed” Paula fan, started chatting with Abdul through Twitter, some of Oneslager’s own circle of friends were skeptical of her cell phone texts and emails.

Not even when Oneslager told classmates last week that she was going to Los Angeles, Calif., this week to meet the celebrity in person did her circle of Coffeyville chums try to believe her dream would come true.

That all changed this week.

A Coffeyville man suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest during a domestic matter late Tuedsay night, April 13.

Commander Mike Brown of the Coffeyville Police Department said officers were called to 101 S. Spruce shortly before 10 p.m., Tuesday where an estranged family member was attempting to kick down the door to a house. During a 911 call to the police dispatch, the caller stated that the subject had kicked down the door and shot another member of the household.

Police officers found Paul A. Jamiez, age 22, of 101 S. Spruce, laying near the residence with a single gunshot wound to the upper right chest. He was transported to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Brown said an investigation into the incident continues.
