Coffeyville Community College is looking for feedback on its 2010 strategic planning survey.

Alumni, students, employees, taxpayers, Coffeyville residents and all interested parties are welcome to participate in the survey. Multiple choice, ranking and fill-in-the-blank questions are asked in the survey and should take only a few minutes to complete.  Feedback will be used by college administrators in future decision-making including whether to add or cut programs.

CHERRYVALE — Cherryvale city councilors voted Monday to grant a 14-day extension to a Coffeyville-based contractor to complete a water system improvement project in the city.

However, the council’s decision also included the flared temper from one city councilor who left the meeting.

CANEY — To those people who scoff at the notion of small-town life, believe government employees are not effective with their work, and have the notion that God does not answer prayers, then let the story of Alpha Ross change your mind.

Ross, an elderly Caney resident, lives by herself and has tended to herself without any assistance. She admits her octogenarian years are slowing her pace and her body, however she still makes her own food, drives herself to the store, and cleans her own home.

That was precisely what she was doing on the afternoon of Thursday, March 25 when, after taking a bath, she decided to clean her bathtub.

CHERRYVALE — Plans for the relocation of the South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad switching yard to an area north of Cherryvale are moving ahead, a company representative said Monday.

Dan Smith, director of real estate acquisition for the SKO Railroad’s parent company, Watco, Inc., told city councilors that the company is progressing on its plans to relocate the switching yard from the downtown business district to an area along county road 5800 and east of U.S. 169 highway north of Cherryvale.

Ground will be broken on the new switch yard in May with an estimated completion date of Aug. 1.
