WICHITA – A Claremore, Okla., man has been sentenced to 40 years without parole for killing a bystander in a shootout with Coffeyville police following a February 2009 bank robbery.

Ross A. Williams, age 40, has been sentenced to 40 years without parole for killing Willie Neal, Jr., who was standing outside his brother’s home after hearing gunshots ringing out in his neighborhood.   Williams pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery, one count of murder with a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of attempting to kill police officers to avoid arrest.
