Cherryvale man arrested after hit-and-run incident

A Cherryvale man was arrested Sunday night for alleging fleeing the scene of an injury accident involving a pedestrian.

Sheriff Robert Dierks said John E. Blome II of Cherryvale was taken into custody for a hit-and-run incident and for failing to report the incident to law enforcement.

Dierks said the incident took place shortly before 9 p.m., Sunday, March 14 on South Carson Street when a pedestrian, identified as Thomas Morehead of Cherryvale, reported being struck by a vehicle. Morehead was taken to Labette Health in Parsons by Cherryvale EMS; the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

Eyewitnesses report that Morehead was struck by a 1990s model, single-cab flatbed Chevrolet pickup truck that was southbound on South Carson Street. The truck was traveling at an excessive rate of speed.

A vehicle matching this description was located near the intersection of county roads 4600 and 5500 south of Cherryvale. Following the investigation, Blome was taken into custody by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.
