Two-vehicle collision reported east of Independence

INDEPENDENCE — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 160 highway west of county road 4500 on Friday morning, March 5.

Sheriff Robert Dierks said James Thomas Bond of Independence was driving a Chrysler Pacifica westbound on U.S. 160 highway when he apparently fell asleep. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided head on with a KIA Optima driven by Jason Matthew Butler, also of Independence, that was eastbound on the highway.

Kaitlyn Butler, Jason Matthew Butler’s daughter, was a passenger in the KIA Optima.

The Butlers were taken to Mercy Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment. Bond refused medical treatment at the scene.

Extent of injuries are unknown at this time.
