The outpouring of food items, clothing, personal hygiene products and money for the Cherryvale Food Pantry has been overwhelming, a food pantry volunteer reports.

Harry Cunningham, who is among four local volunteers who coordinate the food pantry distributions, said he has been impressed with the show of support form the Cherryvale community in recent weeks.

Caney Valley High School’s debate program attained the biggest honor of the 2009 season last Saturday when it qualified two teams to the National Forensics League’s national tournament in Kansas City, Mo., in June 2010.

Call it “Bucks for Buckles.”

The Kansas Highway Patrol teamed up with area law enforcement agencies to encourage Montgomery Count teenagers to wear their seat belts. The patrol troopers and area police officers and sheriff’s deputies visited Caney Valley, Cherryvale and Tyro Christian high schools on Monday to not only encourage the use of seat belts but to offer a cash incentive to those teens who pledge to buckle up.
